Asian Beetles, or “Ladybugs” as they are commonly known in our area, are one of the most successful beetle species in the world with dozens of sub-species. They do not pose a threat to humans but in the right conditions can swarm or form large clusters to gather and maintain heat.
Background: LadyBugs
Introduced to North America in the early 1900s, they were a successful solution to aphid control and eating smaller insects that damage crops. They have many names but usually are called something close to “Ladybeetle” or “Ladybug”.
Preferred Environments
The main risk is when temperatures drop below 10°C, and they look for crevices and spaces that are dry and cool to overwinter. This can result in large clusters being found in attics and between walls.
